NASA InSight Mission to Mars

Started to be built in May 2014 and due to some leaks in SEIS, one of the vehicle’s major measuring instruments in 2016, the launch was postponed to 2018.NASA waited for the closest position of the earth and MARS to launch and The Mars InSight spacecraft is launched today.

”optimal closeness every two years”

The prominence of this space vehicle is big,this type of spacecraft was sent for the first time to investigate the inner structure of the mars.Also,there is a distinct feature in this launch:the first satellite launched from California to the interplanetary mission.

InSight is not a discovery vehicle,will remain constant on the landing surface and it will do research.The robot will open a hole 5 meters deep through the surface with robot arm and will investigate core shell, layers, and surface shapes as primary tasks ant in this way  provide information on the formation and evolution of the mars.Also will also provide information on the formation of these other rock structure planets.(Other rock structure planets: Mercury,Earth,Venus)

Second task is to measure the level of tectonic activity on the planet, that is, the mars’ earthquakes and the effects of the meteorite.

InSight spacecraft launched from Vandenberg air force base later merged with Atlas V-410 rocket.Theprobable duration of reaching the Mars is 26 November 2018 but it is thought that the most difficult part of the whole mission and journey is the moment of landing.

And this launch has nothing to do with SpaceX company.The total mission duration of the spacecraft made by the Lockheed Martin company is two years and the total cost with the delay is 835 million dollars.

Also this mission is an important step for future Mars plans.
