How is a Rainbow Formed
Dispersion of Light by Prisms: White light is contains all colors.When we send white light to the prism,they break in different wavelengths when passing through a prism having different density from air.This creates a spread of coloured light rays from red to violet.
Well,How is a rainbow formed ?
The raindrops are spherical and unlike what we known,sunlight is not yellow it’s white.The sunlight enters directly into the rain drop in its direction through its surface and it is decomposes into its own colors inside then,hits the wall back of the spherical and goes out.
Brief information: The reason for the reflection of the light from the back surface the droplet convex and concave feature .Newton,using this feature of the light the problem of rainbow surrounding the stars is solved by using mirrored lens and in this way Newton invented a reflecting telescope.
Briefly,the rain drops serve as a prism that separates the colors of light and this colors; red orange yellow green blue ultramarine purple.
Also,the back surface of the droplet functions as a tiny mirror.The light is reflected once or twice time that’s why often a second rainbow formed and the colors of the second rainbow are reversed.Angle of the first rainbow : 42° and angle of the second rainbow : 51°.

”reverse colors”
The rainbow is actually circled.But,because of intervening horizon we see part of the circle,so is half circular bow.

”taken by a helicopter flying between a downpour.”
Brief informations about rainbow;
- Everyone who looks at the same time rainbow,they cannot see the same rainbow because rain drops constantly change location and it causes a change in appearance.
- The distance between us when we try to approach the rainbow will always be the same.
